The Pete Project

In supporting the transition towards a low-carbon society, more renewable power is being generated and we’re having to develop cost-effective solutions to energy storage which are scalable and viable.

The Pete Project (Power, Energy, Technology, Efficiency) launched with the aim of demonstrating the value of intelligent household technologies to provide a Demand Side Response (DSR) balancing service to the National Grid. This involves installing 500 Mixergy hot water tanks, and 100 Powervault batteries into homes across the UK which are connected to Upside Energy’s cloud-based platform. The hot water tanks and batteries ‘charge’ when too much electrical energy is available on the National Grid and consumer demand is low, enabling more renewable energy generation and offering a green solution to energy storage.

Mixergy tanks allows users to selectively heat a smaller portion of the tank, which frees up more ‘space’ for renewable energy.
