Our pilot with St Basils, cutting energy bills while keeping homes warm and healthy, took the top innovation prize at this year’s ceremony in Manchester.
Mixergy won Innovation of the Year at the Unlock Net Zero Awards on 23 June, recognised for work with youth homelessness charity St Basils to lower energy bills and deliver healthier homes for residents.
The award, presented at Manchester Central alongside the Housing 2026 conference, celebrates the projects and partnerships driving the UK housing sector towards net zero. Our entry centred on a pilot that shows what smart hot water can do once it stops being treated as a standalone appliance.
The system balances heating, ventilation and energy use across the home, adapting in real time to keep conditions comfortable and healthy while cutting waste. In early testing, homes have seen energy use fall by around 30%, with residents saving roughly £200 a year. For the people St Basils supports, many of them young and moving towards independent living, lower bills and a warm, dry home make a real difference to how settled and secure that home feels.
The pilot builds on Mixergy’s patented top-down heating, which heats only the water a household needs and uses up to 40% less energy than a conventional cylinder. Pairing that efficiency with whole-home control is the next step in our work across social housing.
