Smarter Hot Water, Happier Tenants: Mixergy at ASCP 2025
We proudly exhibited at the ASCP Safety & Compliance Conference an essential gathering for social housing professionals focused on delivering safer, smarter, and more sustainable homes. With housing providers under growing pressure to decarbonise while protecting tenants from rising energy costs, our message landed clearly: hot water storage doesn’t just need to be efficient, it needs to be intelligent.
Doing More with Less Energy
Our Sales Director, Peter McBride, delivered a keynote on one of the sector’s toughest challenges: how to decarbonise heat in an electrified world with far less available grid capacity. While a typical gas connection can deliver 65kW, electricity connections top out at around 18.4kW. That means we must rethink how we use and store energy in every home.
With heating and hot water accounting for the majority of domestic energy use, and instantaneous gas heating being phased out, smart cylinders like Mixergy’s will be essential. They provide storage and control, unlocking flexibility when the grid is under pressure and lowering costs when prices fall.
Why Every Home Needs a Smarter Cylinder
Most hot water cylinders heat the entire tank like a kettle, wasting time, energy, and money. Mixergy’s patented technology heats only what’s needed, resulting in:
- 30% more usable hot water
- Up to 10x faster reheat times
- Legionella cleansing cycles
- Smart tariff integration and machine learning
- Cloud-connected fleet monitoring and remote diagnostics
In short, our cylinders function like a thermal battery, helping social landlords meet compliance goals while improving outcomes for residents.
Real-World Results: Proven in Social Housing
Our presentation showcased two standout case studies:
Birmingham City Council
To meet net zero by 2030, Birmingham installed nearly 1,000 Mixergy cylinders. These have:
- Saved £286,745 on tenant energy bills in just 2 years
- Cut 172 tonnes of CO₂ emissions
- Delivered machine-learning-driven hot water control
That’s an average £286 saving per household, with installations completed quickly and non-disruptively.
Havebury Housing
Havebury tackled fuel poverty and carbon emissions in oil-heated homes by combining Mixergy tanks with solar PV. The results:
- 185 days without using oil
- A 70% reduction in CO₂ emissions
- Captured 837 kWh of free solar energy
Smart integration with solar and oil heating made these upgrades simple for both contractors and residents.
Looking Ahead
We had fantastic conversations with housing associations, compliance leads, and technical teams across the country. There’s a clear appetite for solutions that can be easily installed, deliver immediate energy savings, and prepare homes for a low-carbon future.
If you missed us at ASCP, we’d love to connect. Our team can support with:
- Project scoping and technical guidance
- CPD content and contractor training
- Fleet-wide energy performance dashboards
Together, we can turn every tank into a smart energy asset—and every home into a step forward on the journey to net zero.
