Mixergy welcomes local MP and Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire to mark King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation

September 29, 2025

Oxfordshire based hot water technology company Mixergy welcomed its local Member of Parliament, Calum Miller, MP for Bicester and Woodstock, to its Oxford headquarters on Thursday 25 September. This was ahead of a special ceremony on Friday 26 September, when the Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire formally presented the King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation to CEO/CTO and Co-Founder Pete Armstrong.

The King’s Award recognises Mixergy’s pioneering technology which has transformed the traditional hot water cylinder into a smart, grid connected thermal battery. By heating only the water needed and integrating with solar PV, heat pumps and smart tariffs, Mixergy helps households cut bills, lower emissions and create flexibility on the grid to support more renewable energy.

Mixergy was the only UK climate technology company in the plumbing and heating sector to receive the King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation 2025.

Pete Armstrong, CEO/CTO and Co-Founder of Mixergy, said:

“It is a huge honour for Mixergy to be recognised with a King’s Award for Enterprise and to welcome both our local MP and the Lord Lieutenant to celebrate with our team. This award shines a spotlight on the role innovation in energy technology can play in decarbonising homes, lowering energy bills and building a smarter, more resilient energy system for the UK. We are immensely proud of our people, our partners and our customers who share our mission to accelerate the transition to net zero. Without them this would never have been possible.”

Calum Miller, MP for Bicester and Woodstock, said:

“It is fantastic to see such groundbreaking innovation taking place here in Oxfordshire. Mixergy is not only creating skilled jobs locally but is also helping households across the country cut bills and carbon. Winning a King’s Award is a tremendous achievement and highlights the excellence of Mixergy’s work. We can all be proud that we have a company based here capable of delivering such an important social and environmental impact.”

Mixergy was spun out of Oxford University 10 years ago and today employs more than 50 staff, with its award-winning smart cylinders installed in homes and developments across the UK. The company recently completed a £12 million funding round, led by Barclays Climate Ventures with backing from Oxford Sciences Enterprises, Kiko Ventures IP Group, Nesta and EDP Ventures. Its technology is helping local authorities and housing associations reduce costs and emissions while improving comfort for residents.

The King’s Awards for Enterprise, previously known as The Queen’s Awards, is one of the most prestigious business awards in the UK. Winners may use the King’s Awards emblem for the next five years, symbolising their contribution to innovation, international trade, sustainable development or promoting opportunity.
