SUPPORTING A NET-ZERO CARBON FUTURE
BE A FIRST MOVER WITH MIXERGY
Over recent years unprecedented levels of renewable energy and increased investment in localised energy generation has transformed our energy system. Because of this, it is becoming increasingly difficult to manage intermittent electricity levels on the the grid and the carbon intensity and price of electricity is increasingly dropping below that of gas.
Energy suppliers are in a powerful position to make a real impact in achieving a low-carbon future. Mixergy’s low cost, scalable virtual energy store is helping energy companies to manage this low carbon transition.
Offer customers fairer pricing with smart Time of Use tariffs
Facilitate more renewable energy generation and increase utilisation
Add smart technology to your portfolio and retain edge over competitors
HOW CAN MIXERGY SUPPORT DECARBONISATION TARGETS?
Mixergy are the only hot water product certified by the National Grid to provide grid flexibility services. Each cylinder has between 8-14kWh energy storage, with 3kW draw per cylinder available for Demand Side Response (DSR) and Fast Frequency Response (FFR).
WHAT IMPACT CAN THIS HAVE?
If just 3% of the UK’s existing hot water tanks were replaced with Mixergy tanks, we would be able to absorb the largest excess renewable events that occur on our energy network.
For example: 1,000 Mixergy tanks provides 3MW of instantly available power.

BENEFITS TO END USERS
Dynamically priced smart tariffs
Volumetric heating enables the Mixergy tank to be linked to dynamically priced energy tariffs. Rewards customers with lower bills when energy demand is low.
Increased field service efficiency
Internet-connectivity enables remote diagnostics to be carried out on the Mixergy tank by a service engineer. This reduces truck rolls and increases First Time Fix Rate for cheaper servicing.
MIXERGY GRID FLEXIBILITY SERVICES
FAST FREQUENCY RESPONSE (FFR)
The National Grid must maintain the frequency of the National Electricity Transmission System within ± 1% of 50Hz. The rise of renewable generation means that on windy and sunny days a net excess of energy can occur. This can increase frequency (Hz). To counter this, Mixergy’s virtual battery can absorb these net excesses.
DEMAND SIDE RESPONSE (DSR)
DSR is a valuable tool to reduce strain on the National Grid. DSR activities balance energy demand, softening peaks and filling troughs through encouraging consumers to ‘turn on’ when power is more abundant, affordable and green. For example, encouraging consumers to use energy over night when demand is low, or mid-day when the suns shining and the grid is full of solar.
WHAT DOES A MIXERGY-UTILITIES RELATIONSHIP LOOK LIKE?
- Provide a portfolio of assets for energy aggregation (DSR)
- Enable the update of dynamic Time of Use tariffs by offering customers a low-cost impactful energy store
- Create an IoT smart home ‘node’ within the domestic environment. This in turn can allow remote service support and facilitate uptake of other new smart cloud-based domestic technologies
